Start with pitch, not with the series number. Pitch decides the sprocket, the smallest nose radius the belt can turn, and how small a product can sit on the belt without tipping into a hinge. Once the pitch family is fixed, the surface and the material are the two decisions left, and both can change without touching the drive.

Six series share the 25.4 mm pitch, so pitch alone will not identify a belt you already own. Module thickness and rod diameter are what separate them, and the method is set out in how to measure a modular belt for replacement.
Every surface in a series runs on the same sprockets, so a line can move from a closed deck to an open one without changing the drive.
PP is the default for washdown food lines. POM raises belt strength substantially in the same series, which matters on long runs and inclines, and it dislikes acidic cleaning chemicals. PE is chosen for cold and for low friction. Food-grade material options compliant with FDA and EU regulations are available; the comparison is in PP, PE and POM for food lines.
Modular belts are built from modules laid brick fashion, so width is a specification rather than a catalogue option. Each series has its own width increment, and the product page for the series states it. Send the width you measured across the frame and say it is measured.
Only if the new belt engages the existing tooth form exactly, and matching pitch is not enough on its own. See whether the old sprockets can stay.
Belt strength is quoted in newtons per metre of width, and it is compared against the pull calculated from product load, belt weight, run length, friction and any lift. The worked method is in the belt pull calculation.
