Narrow down from 20+ plastic modular belt series in three steps: pitch, belt strength, then surface style. Quick answer: choose a modular belt series in three steps. First narrow by pitch: small pitch (12.7 mm to 19.05 mm) for small products and tight transfers, 1-inch class (25.4 mm to 27.2 mm) for general conveying, 2-inch (50.8 mm) for cases, crates and heavy loads. Second, check belt strength against your load; the series in this catalog run from 9,500 N/m to 47,500 N/m depending on material. Third, pick the surface: closed flat top for small or unstable products, flush grid or perforated where the process needs drainage and airflow, raised rib for pusher transfers, nub top for reduced contact. Flat top chains (820, 880 and related plate chains) are rated by chain plate load in N per strand rather than N/m of belt width, so they get their own treatment in the flat top chain guide and in the sections below.

Fine-pitch series for small products: 5935, 926, 1100

Small pitch buys you a smaller nose bar radius at transfers, smoother running at low speed and more plastic under small footprints. Bottles, caps, pouches, confectionery, electronics and pharma product start here.

  • Series 926 (12.7 mm) is the finest pitch we make. Flat top and flush grid, PP or POM, up to 21,200 N/m in POM. Details in the 926 buyer's guide.
  • Series 1100 (15.24 mm) is the strength pick among the fine pitches: 31,100 N/m in POM, in flat top and flush grid (7.7% open). See the 1100 buyer's guide.
  • Series 5935 (19.05 mm) has the widest choice of the three, with flat top, flush grid (26.9% open) and perforated flat top in PP, POM or PE. Full comparison in the 5935 buyer's guide.

1-inch class general purpose: 900, 966, 976, 986, 1000, 936

Most food processing, packaging and general factory conveying lands in the 25.4 mm to 38.1 mm band. Within it, the pick comes down to surface style, open area and material rather than pitch.

  • Series 900 (27.2 mm) carries four surfaces, flat top, flush grid, perforated flat top and raised rib, and reaches 40,300 N/m in POM. If someone asks for "a general-purpose modular belt" with no other constraints, this is the answer. 900 buyer's guide.
  • Series 966 (25.4 mm, 26,800 N/m POM) matters when the discharge uses finger transfer plates; its raised rib surface is built for them. 966 buyer's guide.
  • Series 976 (25.4 mm, PP/PE) trades the grid options for a nub top, useful where product contact area has to stay minimal. Also flat top and perforated flat top. 976 buyer's guide.
  • Series 986 (25.4 mm) is the straightforward flat top / flush grid pairing in POM or PP, up to 30,851 N/m. 986 buyer's guide.
  • Series 1000 (25.4 mm) is the thin one: an 8.7 mm module that still reaches 39,300 N/m in POM, so it wraps small end rollers without giving up strength. 1000 buyer's guide.
  • Series 936 (38.1 mm, 33,000 N/m PP) bridges toward the 2-inch class with flush grid and nub top surfaces. 936 buyer's guide.

Heavy-duty 2-inch series: 956, 400, OPB

The 50.8 mm pitch belts haul cases, crates, totes and bulk on thick 15.9 mm to 16 mm modules with correspondingly large hinge rods. Three platforms split the territory:

  • Series 956 (27,000 N/m PP), the workhorse, with flat top, flush grid and perforated flat top on shared sprockets. 956 buyer's guide.
  • Series 400 (39,200 N/m PP), the strength pick, in flush grid (29.4% open) and raised rib. 400 buyer's guide.
  • OPB (17,600 N/m PP), the surface-choice pick: five styles including a reinforced flush grid and a 29% large open grid for maximum wash-through. OPB buyer's guide.

Radius and spiral belts: 300, 916, 2400, 7100

When the layout has corners, a side-flexing radius belt runs them on one drive instead of chaining straight conveyors together with transfer points. Inner turning radius runs from 1.7 x belt width (series 916) to 2.5 x (series 300 and 2400), open areas from 41.5% to 60%. Flat top chains: 820, 880 and plate chains

Single-file bottles, cans and packs often do not justify a full-width belt; a hinged flat-top chain in guide rails does the job with less hardware. The range covers 820 straight-running (4,300 N plate load) and 880 side-flexing (4,420 N) chains in 82.6 mm, 114.3 mm and 152.4 mm plate widths, plus heavy-duty and raised deck variants. How to identify a replacement belt

Replacing an existing belt is not a selection problem, it is an identification problem. Measure the pitch (center-to-center between hinge rods), note the module thickness and the surface style, and match against the master table above. Series numbering follows recognizable industry patterns, and most standard series cross straight over to a Veybelt equivalent that runs on the same sprockets.
