Series 1000 Modular Belt Buyer's Guide: Surface Variants, Sprockets and Accessories

Technical Guide3 min read

The 1000 series is a 25.4 mm pitch modular belt with a thin 8.7 mm module, built as flat top or flush grid and driven by 16/18/22-tooth POM sprockets. In POM it reaches 39,300 N/m, unusual strength for a belt this thin. Here is how the two surfaces compare and what goes on the order.

Quick answer: the Veybelt 1000 series is a 25.4 mm (1 in) pitch plastic modular belt with a slim 8.7 mm module profile. Two surfaces: flat top (fully closed) and flush grid (open grid for drainage and airflow). Both mold in PP, POM or PE, rated 16,700 N/m in PP and 39,300 N/m in POM, and both engage the same 1000 sprockets. Change your mind about the surface later and the drive train stays put.

What is the 1000 series?

The 1000 is a small-pitch, straight-running series. Its 25.4 mm pitch is half that of 2 in platforms like the 956, and at 8.7 mm the module is thin enough to wrap small sprockets and end rollers. That suits compact conveyors, lightweight product and lines where items must hand off cleanly between belts. What sets it apart is the POM rating: 39,300 N/m, more than double the PP figure, so a thin belt can still pull real load or run a longer center distance. Construction is the usual brick-layed injection-molded module on hinge rods; width is whatever you need, and repairs happen module by module on the frame.

Choose your surface: the two 1000 variants

VariantOpen areaBest forAvoid when
1000 Flat Top 0% (closed) Small packaged goods, electronics and parts; accumulation and inspection sections where the smooth closed 8.7 mm deck keeps small items from rocking Water, air or wash-through has to pass the belt
1000 Flush Grid Open grid Draining, rinsing and air-cooling light product on compact conveyors without stepping up to a bigger pitch Product feet are small enough to catch in the grid; run the flat top and drain elsewhere

When in doubt, turn the product over. A closed or small base rides the flat top; anything that must drain or breathe goes on the flush grid. Pitch, materials and sprockets are shared, so a mixed line still keeps one spare-parts list.

Matching sprockets

Both surfaces take the same 1000 series sprockets in molded POM (acetal), chosen for low friction against the belt hinge:

  • Teeth options: 16 / 18 / 22 teeth. Because the pitch is only 25.4 mm, even a compact pitch diameter carries plenty of teeth, so engagement stays smooth at low shaft heights. Match tooth count to your shaft height and speed.
  • Bore types: square bore self-centers and covers most builds; round bore or a bushing insert deals with worn and non-standard shafts.
  • How many per shaft: baseline spacing is one sprocket per 100–150 mm of width. Only the center sprocket gets locked; the outboard ones float so thermal growth across the width has somewhere to go.

Accessories for a complete 1000 conveyor

  • Flights: vertical cleats in 50 / 102 / 150 mm standard heights for incline and decline sections, compatible with the 1000 series.
  • Hinge rods: keep spare Nylon/PP rods on the shelf; they are what comes out when a module gets swapped.
  • Return wheels and pressure rollers: support the belt on the return run and hold it down on inclines.
  • Bearing bushings and bushing inserts: axial sprocket positioning and bore adaptation to your shaft.

How to spec your 1000 order

With the five points below we can confirm the full bill of materials:

  1. Surface style (flat top / flush grid) and material (PP, POM or PE; POM if the 39,300 N/m rating is doing work for you)
  2. Belt width and conveyor length (center-to-center)
  3. Product weight and speed, ambient/washdown temperature
  4. Shaft size; square, round or bushing bores are matched from that
  5. Accessories: flights (height and spacing), spare hinge rods, return support
